Title: Count Basie - The Complete Decca Recordings
Personnel: Various: Lester Young (tenor saxophone), Jimmy Rushing (vocals), Buck Clayton (trumpet), Harry "Sweets" Edison (trumpet), Herschel Evans (clarinet), Walter Page (bass), Jo Jones (drums).
Recorded: 1937-38
Label: Decca/Grp
Comments: The great Basie Band of the '30's was known far and wide for it's famous swinging beat, articulated most clearly by it's drummer, Jo Jones. Jones could "swing you into bad health" by only using his high-hat cymbals. Additionally, the great tenor saxophonist, Lester Young, got his start in this band and subsequently influenced many other younger players, including most notably Charlie Parker and Stan Getz.

Comments: Although the decline of the big band had started ten years earlier after World War II, the Basie Band kept wowing them all over the world.
